WHPacific is hosting an informal Open House and Demonstration of the recently upgraded LYNX Mobile Mapper™. The event will take place Thursday, August 12 from 9 am to 2 pm at the Future of Flight Aviation Center at Paine Field, Mukilteo, WA, and is open to the general public.
The LYNX Mobile Mapper System incorporates three proven technologies - LiDAR, GPS and the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) - into a field unit which produces survey-grade 3D data. Capable of collecting data at travel speeds up to 60 mph with accuracies better than 5 cm and resolutions up to 1 cm, this translates into fast, accurate, safe and cost-effective surveying.
WHPacific’s LYNX System now has a second scanning head and GLONASS capability, which allows for even more accurate data collection. It will be on site along with displays (photos, AutoCAD Base Maps, etc) of recent projects. A highlight will be a demonstration of scan data collected at Paine Field which will show firsthand the level of detail the LYNX System produces.
WHPacific brought home the ASCE-CA Project of the Year, 2010 for innovative work on the American River Diversion, Pump Station and Restoration project! WHPacific's design provided solutions for a permanent water supply without the Auburn Dam. A massive river stabilization and restoration effort was required, with river recreation and fish passage as integral parts. The diversion weir was a very low slope dam incorporating a whitewater rapid that can be run by canoes and kayaks. It also serves as a fish passage since its rock construction mimics a natural river bottom. Project included:
- Physical scale models and Flow 3D computer modeling
- Channel hydraulic evaluation for flows up to 219,000 cubic feet per second
- Flow depths from 5 feet to 60 feet
- Construction included removal of 1 million cubic yards of material
- Designed unique "fish safe" intake screens
WHPacific provided hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations, oversight of physical scale models and development of computer based Flow 3D models, flow simulation model and BRISTARS sediment transport modeling, design of channel improvements, recreational boating improvements, fish passage, screens diversion weir, intake and pump station, construction observation. http://www.asce.org/PPLContent.aspx?id=10207
WHPacific, along with the City of Duvall and other teaming partners, received three awards for the Main Street Reconstruction Project: - 2010 APWA Washington State Chapter Award for Best Project for Transportation projects less than $5 million
- Association of Washington Cities Municipal Excellence Award for Economic Development
- Governor Gregoire’s 2010 Smart Communities: Smart Partnerships Award – Development Project to Implement a Plan
WHPacific provided construction management services for this project which aimed to revitalize historic Duvall – the heart of the City – through infrastructure improvements and a variety of feature enhancements. New sidewalks, tree grates, road and pedestrian lighting, small public spaces, public art, and other public amenities make historic Duvall a more inviting place for businesses and pedestrians.

Congratulations to Dave Field, PE, on his election to the Washington Airport Management Association (WAMA) Board! Dave was selected for a two-year term and is the only Consultant serving on WAMA's Board of Directors. Recently, Dave completed his service on the governor-appointed Washington State Aviation Planning Council. The Washington Airport Management Association is a non-profit organization created in 1970 to foster professionalism among airport operators in the State of Washington. Their mission is to improve airports and airport management in Washington State. Dave Field is based in our Bothell, WA office. He is a former manager of the Seattle Airports District Office and the FAA Airports Division Programming Branch. Dave has more than 40 years of aviation development experience, and is extremely knowledgeable of FAA Policies, Procedures and Standards
Congratulations to Larry Signani, PLS - and now also CFedS - who passed the February 2010 CFedS certification exam. We are very proud of Larry and appreciate his dedication to the surveying profession! Larry is based in our Sumner, WA office and serves as a senior survey project manager. He has over 48 years of experience in cadastral, geodetic, topographic, hydrographic, photgrammetric, utility and construction surveying. Larry's role at WHPacific also includes instructing employees and surveyors across the U.S. in GPS techniques. He is the GPS committee chairperson for the Land Surveyors Association of Washington, which involves establishing new technology to be used in the Northwest including the Washington Real Time Network in Washington and Oregon. Larry has also implemented the National Geodetic Survey - Height Modernization program campaigns for Washington state on behalf of the Spatial Reference Center of Washington. What is a CFedS? A CFedS is a state licensed land surveyor who has completed the Bureau of Land Management's training program and successfully passed the certification exam. The training program consists of seven courses covering different aspects of the BLM's surveying procedures containing survey legal issues, survey case studies, mathematical problems, and survey history.

WHPacific’s project, Southern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority’s (SSCAFCA) Sunset Pond, won in the Small Projects category. The award committee stated that they were impressed with the watershed park concept, “Storm Henge” structure, and the community value of the project. 
WHPacific was honored at last Friday’s 2010 ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet with a Bronze Award, Best in State for our role as lead consulting engineer in the North Bend Way/Cedar Falls Way Roundabout project! As part of its program to improve critical elements of its transportation system, the City of North Bend chose a single lane roundabout at the intersection of North Bend Way and Cedar Falls Way. The roundabout transformed the function of this intersection and enhanced the aesthetic appeal of this part of the City. This project was truly a success because of the strong partnership, communication, and dedication of representatives from the City of North Bend and WHPacific.
