This $29M project constructed a new major arterial through a developed residential neighborhood and commercial area while minimizing impacts to an environmentally sensitive creek and wetland. It replaced a narrow 2-lane roadway with a 3- to 5-lane road including bike lanes, sidewalks, landscaping; resurrected a creek to address wetland and environmental impacts; replaced an unsafe railroad crossing, realigned the roadway at Tualatin Valley Highway and closed unsafe connections at the intersection.
The most significant feature was the restoration of a creek that had been extensively impacted over the past 50 years by development and channelized as a roadside ditch. Agency requirements to mitigate wetland and habitat impacts were more than satisfied by resurrecting the tributary to Beaverton Creek and constructing a new improved creek. Project was completed $5M under budget and on schedule.
